Integrative English Training Program

Eastern Maine Community College’s Integrative English Training Program (IETP) offers unique and practical contemporary English training program to students whose first languages are other than English. Our program is designed for students who want to pursue degrees in English-speaking colleges and universities. Also, the program aids students who wish to be employed in the work places where English is being spoken.

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) will be waived at EMCC for the students who completed ELL 010, ELL 011, ELL 019, ELL 020, ELL 021, ELL 092 AND earned a B average on 5 EMCC college credit courses (minimum of 15 credit hours).

Classes are small and multinational with 8 to 12 students per class.  The IETP instructors set goals for each student according to the student’s knowledge of the English language and proficiency.  Materials used in the program include grammar books, texbooks, leisure books, audio books, movies, television, radio, Internet, news, newspaper and magazine articles and songs.

IETP provides one-on-one tutoring for each student.  Students meet with an experienced tutor weekly for 2~3 hours.  During the tutor time the IETP students decide what they want to study.  It is time set aside to help our students learn more about their interests, receive extra help in a difficult subject or focus on elements of the English language they find particularly challenging.
