2012 Leadership Trip

Over Spring break, six members of the Golden Eagle Student Senate traveled to New York City to participate in their 2nd Annual Leadership Experience.  While in the “Big Apple” they participated in community service activities and did a bit of sightseeing.  Specifically, they –

  •  assisted the Parks & Recreation Department with a major rooftop gardening project on top of the Arsenal Building in Central Park
  • painted the fence around a popular playground in Claremont Park
  • visited Ellis Island, Times Square, the National September 11th Memorial, Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, South Street Seaport, and Cathedral of St. John the Divine
  • worked with the Food Bank for New York City by sorting and repackaging over 3,000 lbs. of donated food and household items
  • served over 150 meals in the Community Kitchen of West Harlem

It was the first trip to New York for all of the Senators and a true learning experience!NYC Trip
