Transferring Credits to EMCC
Transferring Credits To EMCC
Students may transfer credits earned at other regionally accredited colleges prior to beginning their program of study at EMCC. The responsibility rests with the students to provide the Enrollment Center with:
- An official copy of each college transcript, mailed directly from each college to the EMCC’s Enrollment Center.
- A Copy of the catalog from each school at which the courses were taken, if the school is not located in Maine.
Students will receive a transfer credit evaluation prior to the beginning of the student’s first semester.
Generally, courses with grades of a C (2.00) or better, which are judged by EMCC to be equivalent to EMCC course offerings will be transferred. On occasion, examinations may be required to show competency of subject material. Students may transfer courses not to exceed:
- 50% of the total required credits
- 2. 50% of the total required technical course credits in a major field.
In general, only courses taken within the past 10 years are reviewed. Courses older than 10 years may require additional documentation in order for the transfer credit review to occur. EMCC is the final judge regarding the awarding of transfer credit from other instructions.
CLEP Exam and DANTES Credit
Students who have achieved acceptable College Level Examination Program (CLEP) or Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES) scores may also be granted academic credit if the course in the students’ program of study.
Transferred course grades and/or CLEP/DANTES scores will appear on the students EMCC transfer offer and transcript but will not be used in computing grade point averages.
