EMCC Bone Marrow Drive: April 15, 2014!

Mar 25, 2014

Hosted by the Surgical Technology Class of 2014 on April 15, 2014

Delete Blood Cancer DKMS leads the fight to delete blood cancer by empowering people to take action, give bone marrow and save lives.
With over 3 million registered bone marrow donors worldwide, Delete Blood Cancer DKMS is part of the world’s largest bone marrow donor center.

The Surgical Technology Class of 2013 decided to find a community project last year. We were put in touch with Anna Hanchar who facilitated our event. On April 9 and 10, 2013, the 10 students organized and manned the booths in Maine Hall and in Katahdin Hall registering 239 potential donors!! It was a rewarding experience to watch the Surg Tech Students take on this event and how they interacted with all the EMCC students and faculty that came out and got swabbed.

The next morning, we were notified that a person that was swabbed within our drive was a match to someone waiting for a bone marrow transplant or blood components to help them combat cancer. Because of confidentiality rules, the name of the person was not given to us.Out of the thousands of people that have joined the registry nationally every day, here in Bangor, Maine on the Campus Of EMCC one MATCH was found!

Help us find another Match to save someone’s life!

Please  register today to join us in the fight against blood cancer.

Thank you to Bull Moose, Five Guys, Midas, and Bugaboo Steakhouse for your generous donations for this event!
