Fine Woodwork and Cabinet Making Concentration in the Building Construction Technology provides students with a two-year option tailored for differing occupational goals. Students will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to plan and complete cabinetry projects. Students choose courses in drafting, cabinet layout, estimating, cabinet-making, furniture, and millwork. Students apply their studies by building different types of cabinets in each year of their program. The Fine Woodwork and Cabinet Making Concentration provides the student with the knowledge and skills necessary to plan and complete cabinetry, furniture and millwork projects. Students learn to work with prints, specifications, and shop drawings. Emphasis is placed on selecting proper materials, determining the best procedures, manufacturing parts to specification, assembling, and finishing individual projects.
Students will learn to plan and process wood in the most efficient manner and the setup and operation of wood working machinery and equipment, breakout of lumber and panel components, laminating, veneering, machining, sanding, assembly and finishing.
