A Message from President Barrett to Students
Jan 18, 2012
The fall 2013 semester has begun with new academic programs, eight new faculty members and a brand new Student Success Center which will be a central piece of our new focus on student success. As I enter my 27th year in higher education and my 4th at Eastern Maine Community College, I find this time of the year as exciting as graduation time. We have over 2,400 new and returning students joining us in the classroom, our residential life facilities and participating in a variety of campus activities. As you start this semester, I would encourage you to make sure that you concentrate on attending classes, seeking out campus activities and clubs and athletics. This is also a very difficult time for some of our new students as they face the struggles associated with being away from home and at college for the first time. By actively participating in college clubs and activities, you can greatly reduce your stress and find friends to help with the struggles. We invite you to visit our Student Success Center if you need any support or guidance from our staff. Your college experience will be with you for many years, so be sure to make the most of every moment!
In the next month the new advisement and counseling suite will open adjacent to the Student Success Center and I am hopeful that these “new one stop” departments will help you achieve your dreams and aspirations. I look forward to meeting and speaking to all of you in the coming weeks.
