For the fifth year in a row, Eastern Maine Community College partnered with EMHS and its affiliates to host Camp Survivor, a program that provides incoming high school freshmen and sophomores opportunities to explore healthcare careers through hands-on activities and challenges.
Camp Survivor culminated with a mock car accident on the EMCC campus, in which a car crash resulting from texting and driving was simulated. Car crash victims, ambulances, and a number of uniformed medical personnel were on site in an effort to immerse campers into a real-life disaster scenario.
Over the course of the program, participants learned skills and explored careers in Nursing, Pharmacy, OT/PT, Radiography, and Dentistry by working alongside professionals in the field. Campers put their skills to the test during the mock disaster, acting as the first responders to the emergency and treating and assessing victims.
Congratulations to all the Camp Survivor participants on their hard work and successful completion of the program!
