EMCC’s Medical Assisting Technology Receives Initial Accreditation

Mar 29, 2011

Bangor, ME: Eastern Maine Community College is pleased to announce that the Medical Assistant program has received initial accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). The associate in applied science degree program, started in 2008, combines classroom lecture, hands-on skills labs, and a 160-hour externship, which prepares students to take the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) national exam offered by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA). Medical Assistants are multi-skilled allied health professionals specifically trained to work in ambulatory settings such as physicians’ offices, clinics and group practices, performing administrative and clinical procedures. The program will see the next accreditation review in 2016. “The CAAHEP accreditation of the Medical Assistant program underscores the quality programming that is being offered at EMCC,” said EMCC Academic Dean, Dr. Pamela Proulx-Curry, “and is another example of how the College is helping to meet critical workforce needs in the community.”
