On Friday, March 11, 2011, Eastern Maine Community College, United Technologies Center, and the Penobscot Job Corps joined forces to host 800 high school and college students from 24 Maine vocational schools for the SkillsUSA Maine Championships, a competition showcasing the state’s most talented technical and vocational students. Students were pitted against each other in their respective fields of study in their quest for gold, silver and bronze medals and the chance to represent Maine at the national championship.

These champions, along with regional winner, Chas Harkins, had previously participated in local competitions. After triumphing there, they competed in the two-day state championship which ended with an award ceremony on Friday evening. Gold medal winners will now travel to Kansas in June to take on their challengers in the national competition.
