President’s Message To Students August 2012

Aug 9, 2012

The start of the fall 2012 semester is only three weeks away and the dog days of August are upon us. Speaking of the heat, EMCC is a hot school this summer with applications for admissions up 44.8%. Many of our academic programs and classes are at capacity for the Fall semester but we still have openings in programs such as Building Construction, Computer Aided Drafting & Design, Civil Engineering Technology, Fine Woodworking and Cabinet Making, Fire Science Technology, Hospitality & Tourism Management, and Liberal Studies. Remember the EMCC mission is to provide both technical career programs for immediate employment and an affordable pathway (courses or degree) to a four-year degree.

I have noticed that gas prices at the pump are again rising rapidly; remember that through our partnership with the Bangor Area Transit Department (BAT BUS), students can utilize this bus service free of charge throughout Penobscot County. Last year, students used this service over 22,000 times, saving significant amounts of money on gas. To ride the BAT all you need is a valid up-to-date EMCC student ID Card.

Enjoy the last few weeks of summer and I encourage you to begin preparing for the start of the new semester. This includes making sure you know your class schedule, having all your financial aid paper work filled out, and complete the online or in-person orientation sessions (new students only). If you need help please email, call or stop by the Enrollment Center to have your questions answered.

I look forward to seeing you on August 27th!
