The month of July is here and most of us will be celebrating the 4th with family and friends. Of course the 4th is about celebrating our Independence; please remember all the service men and women – past and present – who make this possible for us. At EMCC, we have over 120 students who are veterans enrolled in classes for the Fall 2012 semester!
We are only eight weeks away from the start of the Fall semester and the campus continues to prepare. A total of eight full-time faculty members have been hired and four of these are brand new positions to support our growing enrollment. This brings the number of full-time faculty on campus to 58, with the ultimate goal of reaching 63 over the next few years.
The construction projects for our new classroom wing and a shell for the new Learning/Student Success Center are on track for being completed on time and the bids for a parking lot behind Maine Hall will be closed in mid-July. The campus facilities staff is working diligently on repairs and upkeep to ensure that the campus is ready for Fall.
Finally, I received word that our students adeptly represented the state of Maine and Eastern Maine Community College at the National Skills USA Competition in Kansas City this past week. Michael Francis (Automotive Services) and Matthew Durrant (Architectural Design) placed in the top 10 of their trades and the following students brought home medals:
Jaime Deschaine – Pin Design (BRONZE MEDAL)
Tyler Nadeau – CPR/First Aid (GOLD MEDAL)
Bruce Randall – Cabinet Making (GOLD MEDAL)
Congratulations to all of the students who competed!
Have a wonderful month of July.
