President’s Message To Students October 2012

President Barrett Zip Lining with Students on the EMCC Quad

The Fall 2012 semester is going fast as we entered the sixth week of classes on October 8th. This semester I am teaching an Introduction of Business class at night. It has been 8 years since I last taught a college course and I have to say that it has been a great experience but a lot of work! I have eighteen students in my class and their backgrounds are diverse and are similar to most of the student body at EMCC. The students range from a 17 year old, still in high school, to non-traditional students upgrading their educational backgrounds.

So far, the students in my class have been engaged in learning and the majority of the students have shown up for every class (one of the keys to success in college is attendance). Teaching again has been a fantastic experience for me in connecting with EMCC students in a different way but has been extremely challenging in keeping up with technology in the classroom and course content. This experience has also increased my awareness of the hard work that the EMCC faculty undertake each day to facilitate your learning.

I will keep you posted of my new teaching experience here at EMCC. As always let me stress to each and every one of you that the staff and faculty are here to help you succeed. This time of year is a critical point in your success. Do not hesitate in contacting anyone on campus if you are having difficulty.

Best of luck on your midterms!
Larry
