TRiO Graduate Awarded 2016 MEEOA Rising Star Award

EMCC TRiO Student Support Services graduate is recognized for her academic and civic achievement by the Maine Educational Opportunity Association at the 34th Annual MEEOA Conference.
Crystal Favati was awarded the 2016 MEEOA Rising Star Award from the Maine Educational Opportunity Association at it’s 34th annual conference on January 5th in Orono, Maine. MEEOA is made up of professionals from across the state of Maine who work in educational access and opportunity programs, like EMCC’s TRIO Student Support Services program.
The Rising Star Award honors emerging leaders who strive toward the highest levels of personal and professional accomplishment, who excel in their chosen field, devote time and energy to their community in a meaningful way, and serve as a role model for other economically disadvantaged, first generation college bound students and students with disabilities.
Crystal was nominated for the award by TRIO Advisor, Katie England-Lawler, based on her exemplary grades, civic participation, and positive attitude. Crystal graduated in December from Eastern Maine Community College with her associate’s degree in liberal studies with plans to continue on to complete her bachelor’s degree in math/ actuarial studies and eventually pursue a master’s degree. Crystal has been on the Dean’s list here at EMCC every semester, with the exception of the 2 semesters in which she made the President’s list (4.0 GPA). She currently serves as a tutor for the TRIO program and was the recipient of the EMCC Foundation Scholarship as well as several other scholarships, was the president of Phi Theta Kappa honor society, participated in the Pink Runway Project, and is a breast cancer survivor and fundraiser for the cause. Crystal lives in Hampden with her husband Jeff and son Canyon, and currently represents the town of Hampden in the Mrs. Maine competition.
