Maine aquaculture farms and hatcheries internships
This summer, we’re partnering with 17 employers across the coast of Maine to offer hands-on positions in aquaculture. We encourage anyone interested in aquaculture or marine science to apply. Participating regions include Damariscotta, Brunswick, Bar Harbor/Franklin, Portland/Yarmouth/Freeport, and Jonesport!
About the Program:
The Aquaculture Pioneers Program offers learners an incredible opportunity to gain hands-on experience at Maine aquaculture farms and hatcheries. Participants receive 10-12 weeks of PAID, full-time work experience at a partner host site, access to industry-relevant educational training, and attendance at personal and professional networking events. Participants can receive school internship credit, and will be enrolled as pre-apprentices to be eligible to earn credit toward a future aquaculture apprenticeship (if interested).
No prior experience is required to apply, and anyone aged 16 or older is eligible to participate.

- Applications Reviewed:On a rolling basis. Early applications have a higher chance of being contacted by employers.
- Learners are encouraged to apply via the easy common applicationto be considered for multiple positions at once. They will be asked to review available position descriptions and be prepared to share their resume and a brief statement on how this program aligns with their educational and/or career goals.
Program Timeline:
- Introductory Bootcamp:May 19-20, 2025
- Work Experience:May 21 – August (extensions possible)
- Annual Blue Economy Symposium:Early August (date TBD)
