Medical Assistant Certificate Program

Program Details

Eastern Maine Community College is excited to announce an incredible opportunity for individuals wishing to become Medical Assistants. Through Maine Jobs & Recovery Plan, EMCC will offer a one-year Medical Assisting program to 20 qualified individuals at no cost to the students

The costs associated with the following will be waived for individuals who qualify for the program:

  • Tuition
  • Fees
  • Textbooks
  • Criminal background checks
  • One certification exam
  • Voucher for scrubs

Medical Assistants are multi-skilled allied health professionals specifically trained to work in ambulatory settings such as physician’s offices, clinics, and group practices, performing administrative and clinical procedures. Students are provided with extensive hands-on training in both entry-level and advanced medical assistant competencies in accordance with the Standards and Guidelines for the Accreditation of Educational Programs in Medical Assisting. Graduates from the Medical Assistant Technology program are eligible to sit for the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) certification examination upon successful completion of the program.

The Medical Assistant Technology program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) upon the recommendation of the Medical Assisting Education Review Board (MAERB).

Program Schedule

Enrollment for the Spring 2023 Medical Assisting Program has closed. 

All courses for this program are online, and asynchronous, with the exception of MAS 111 & 211 which include a mandatory in-person lab component once weekly for the duration of the program.

Application/Enrollment Requirements:

  • 18 years of age by the start of the course
  • Maine state resident
  • Copy of high school transcript, GED or HiSET, and/or higher education transcript (if applicable for credit transfer review)
  • Clean criminal record and signed background check waiver form
  • Signed Assumption of Risk form
  • Required Immunizations: See Health History Form
