Eastern Maine Community College’s Commercial Drivers License (CDL) program can get you on the road in as little as 10 weeks. Our program focuses on safety and real world driving experience.  Classes held year round.

CDL Admissions Requirements

  • Valid Maine Driver’s License & Clean Driving Record
  • Ability to pass random drug screenings
  • Immunization Records (MMR and Diphtheria/Tetanus within past 10 years)

CDL Costs


  • Tuition: $5,000
  • DOT Physical, Alcohol/Substance Screening: $167 – required: Concentra Authorization for Examination Form
  • Textbook: Trucking: Tractor-Trailer Driver Handbook/Workbook by Alice Adams: $60 available at EMCC’s Bookstore 
  • CDL Learner’s Permit: $70 – Application, payment and test date scheduled during first week of class
    • Endorsements (Optional but strongly recommended) $20 each. Total $60.

Course Details & Schedule

Open application process.

Courses run approximately every 12 to 15 weeks.


Week 1 through 2

Students will complete 78 hours of classroom time

7:00am to 5pm for the first two weeks on EMCC’s campus.

Week 3 through 8

Students will train Monday through Thursday to complete well beyond the minimum 44 hours of behind-the-wheel (road) and range (off-street) training.

Students will also complete 25.5 of lab work.
