Eastern Maine Community College partners with Bangor Area Recovery Network for Success in College Course

Bangor, Maine – February 1, 2019 – The Bangor Area Recovery Network (BARN) has partnered with Eastern Maine Community College (EMCC) to offer a class for Success in College to anyone affected by addiction. The group meets Wednesday afternoons at the BARN in Brewer from 4-5:30pm. There are no requirements to disclose specifics of each personal addiction story to avoid creating barriers or violating confidentiality, so all are welcome.

Last week, current students in the class came to campus to get their student IDs and begin familiarizing themselves with campus and the people who are here to help them.

Brian Welsh, Student Navigator and Adjunct Instructor at EMCC as well as BARN Success in College instructor says, “I’m grateful to Eastern Maine Community College and the BARN for making this wonderful opportunity possible. These are dedicated, motivated students working hard to recover their lives. I feel very privileged to be their instructor.”

The goal is to offer those affected by addiction an easily accessible first step to achieving higher education that will prepare them for a successful career.
