EMCC 2021 Student of the Year Receives Collegiate and National Recognition
March 29, 2021
Eastern Maine Community College (EMCC) is proud to celebrate Human Services student, Jennifer Hodgins, EMCC’s 2021 Student of the Year and a recipient of the 2021 New Century Transfer Pathway Scholarship.
Student of the Year is selected by leadership at the college after receiving recommendation letters sent in by faculty and staff. In the letter penned about Jennifer, she is touted as a highly intelligent, compassionate, and welcoming individual who volunteers her time as an advocate for other students and an ambassador for the college.
The Maine Community College System will hold a virtual event honoring each community college’s Student of the Year in April. She will also receive a scholarship and speak at commencement.
Jennifer was also recently selected as a 2021 New Century Transfer Pathway Scholar. She was selected based on the score she earned in the All-USA Academic Team competition, for which more than 2,000 applications were received. Jennifer was the top-scoring student in Maine.
This program is sponsored by the Coca-Cola Foundation and the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation, with additional support provided by the American Association of Community Colleges and Phi Theta Kappa.
Jennifer says of this award, “This scholarship is a great honor to me. It means so much that my work is valued, encouraged, and rewarded, allowing me to affordably pursue my goals in the field of Psychology and continue my endeavors to make our corner of the world just a little bit better.”
After graduating from EMCC this spring with her associate’s in Human Services, she will be attending Husson to complete her bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Jennifer plans to continue her education, working towards her doctorate, and hopes to teach at the collegiate level one day and work in clinical and research fields.
