Student Employment Incentive Program For Eastern Maine Community College Students

EMCC is excited to announce a partnership with Day One and Good Will-Hinckley to provide student employment and scholarship opportunities to EMCC students.

Program Details:

Option A:

  • Commit to a 10-hour per week work schedule as a Residential Care Associate/DSP I
    • Starting salary $14.72- $15.62 per hour (actual dependent on experience and qualifications)
    • Attend EMCC at least 6 credit hours per semester, in any program of study
    • Receive a $200 scholarship for the spring 2020 semester, after a 30-day probationary period
    • Receive a $300 scholarship in your next enrolled semester (must maintain satisfactory academic and employment progress and earn a minimum 2.5 gpa in prior semester).
    • Per diem and night shift differentials may be available

Option B:

  • Commit to a 20-hour per week work schedule as a Residential Care Associate/DSP I
    • Starting salary $14.72- $15.62 per hour (actual dependent on experience and qualifications)
    • Attend EMCC at least 6 credit hours per semester, in any program of study
    • Receive a $400 scholarship for the spring 2020 semester, after a 30-day probationary period
    • Receive a $600 scholarship in your next enrolled semester (must maintain satisfactory academic and employment progress and earn a minimum 2.5 gpa in prior semester).
    • Per diem and night shift differentials may be available

 

Qualifications and Skills Needed for Position:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age and have a clean background check with the Maine State Police,
  • Department of Motor Vehicles and DHHS Child and Family Services
  • High School Diploma or HiSET and Valid Driver’s License
  • Working cell phone, internet access, an email account, and general computer skills/knowledge.
  • Experience working with and relating to adolescents, some knowledge of substance abuse recovery is required
  • Good limit setting and role modeling skills
  • Must maintain satisfactory attendance, punctuality and dependability record
  • Ability to cope with stressful situations and to always interact cordially with clients and coworkers to
  • accomplish tasks
  • Ability to adhere to strict confidentiality policies and procedures
  • Certified Residential Medication (CRMA) licensure required for full-time staff within six months of hire, and three hours of medical administration training required for part-time and per diem staff within six months of hire

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • College coursework in general or special education, psychology, sociology or a related human service field
  • Experience working with individuals with significant social, emotional and behavioral problems.
  • CPR/First Aid and Medication Administration Level 1 certified

Residential Care Associate/DSP I Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct supervision; maintain constant awareness of youth whereabouts and to ensure rules of Program are followed.
  • Observe and/or monitor youth to insure their health and safety.
  • Create and maintain loving, caring environment by active listening and support of client development.
  • Attend all meetings and trainings as directed by supervisor.
  • Maintain documentation, physical security, safety rules, and procedures in accordance with agency and program requirements.  Report any safety hazards to immediate supervisor.
  • Complete and submit any incident reports to supervisor. Record significant observations and information about client actions and behaviors in daily log and update supervisor and other staff at shift change.
  • Actively participate in the writing/completing/submitting of any and all client documentation required by the service plan, program needs or as directed by supervisor.
  • Monitor youth progress on goals outlined in the service plan.
  • Assist youth in all aspects of adjusting to facility, campus and community.
  • Teach youth a social skills curriculum focusing on behavioral choices designed to stabilize antisocial conduct: following instructions, accepting feedback, accepting authority, anger management, rational problem solving, etc.
  • Train/teach social and independent living skills, management of behavior, and leisure time management by providing opportunities to build these skills.
  • Serve as a positive role model for youth by exhibiting skills taught in the program and adhering to all Good Will-Hinckley and Day One policies and procedures.
  • Maintain appropriate adult/child boundaries at all times.
  • Transport clients to appointments/meetings as directed by the service plan or supervisor.
  • Dispense medication and maintain accurate medical records.
  • Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of the service population.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

On an ongoing basis strictly adheres to all Federal and State policies and procedures regarding the confidentiality of clients, employees and agency information.

Students should apply by submitting their transcripts to Craig Smith, the Operations Manager,  and a scholarship will be awarded when the student is offered and accept a position with Day One Hinckley.  Students should inform during the interview process that they are students at EMMC and intend on applying for the scholarship upon hire, If they come to the interview with their transcripts, that can help streamline the process.  Day One will apply the funds directly to their balance through the school.
