Culinary Students Shine at Maine Harvest Festival
This year, the Maine Harvest Festival was once again a wonderful showcase for our Culinary Program and its students.
EMCC Culinary students swept the pie contest in the culinary student category:
Honorable Mention – Gabriella “Ella” Morse
Third Place – David Evans
Second Place – Margaret Pechenham
First Place – Lisa Jones
First place in the Commercial Division went to Sarah Coppola a 2013 EMCC graduate and current baker at Husson University.
Second place in the Junior Division went to Mikaela who is the grand-niece of Culinary Student David Evans and a graduate of the EMCC Culinary Summer Camp.
Every year, the Maine Harvest Festival awards a $1,000 scholarship to an EMCC Culinary student. The 2019 recipient is Hannah “Beth” Moody. She is described as a kind, loving person. Beth devotes time to feeding the homeless and helping others. She loves God, family, friends, art, and good food! She has a passion for eating well and preparing unique cuisine. Her desire to learn more about proper cooking techniques and food science lead her to enroll in the Culinary Arts program at EMCC. She has loved all the training and support she has received from Chef Demers and others while attending the college. One of her favorite things to do is plating. As she says, “I like the food to look as good as it tastes!”
The Maine Harvest Festival was also featured on CBS News in a feature about five food events around the U.S. at the end of November. A photo of the students cooking on their showcase stage was at the top of the page for the listing.
Thank you to everyone who makes this festival possible and to everyone who supports our students!
