Bangor, ME – Eastern Maine Community College’s Medical Assisting Program has recently been ranked as the #1 program of its kind in Maine by FindMedicalAssistantPrograms.org.
The ranking compared accredited programs in each state based on metrics like overall cost, student to faculty ratio, retention rate, and the services offered by the institution.
Eastern Maine Community College’s Medical Assisting program is CAAHEP (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs) accredited. Upon graduating, the students are qualified to take the CMA (AAMA) exam. The CMA credential designates a medical assistant who has achieved certification through the Certifying Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA).
Barbara Marchelletta, BS, CMA(AAMA), RHIT, CPC, CPT, AHI was also recently elected President of the Maine State Society of Medical Assistants. The MSSMA role is to enhance the medical assistant professionals and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and professionalism required by employers and patients; protect medical assistants’ rights to practice, and promote efficient health care delivery through the use of multi-skilled Certified Medical Assistants CMA (AAMA). The MSSMA has four local chapters: Penobscot Chapter, Southern Maine Chapter, Downeast Chapter, and Kennebec Valley Chapter.
Medical assistants are in very high demand, not only in Maine but nationally. Medical assistants may be defined as allied health professionals who work primarily in outpatient or ambulatory health care delivery settings, most often under direct physician supervision, and who are able to be delegated both back-office clinical procedures as well as front-office administrative responsibilities. Barbara says of the field, “Medical assistants play an important role in patient care by interacting with patients and employees at every level. This makes them essential healthcare workers.”
Currently, medical assisting positions remain in high demand in Maine, with many hospitals and clinics offering sign-on bonuses to new employees.
