“I need to work to afford college, and I don’t want to leave Dover-Foxcroft to attend college away. The Penquis Higher Education Center in Dover-Foxcroft is the reason I am able to attend college. By staying here I am able to work with young children at a local child card facility — work directly related to my career goals — while going to school. The Penquis College Center has made it easy for me to pursue my goal of becoming an Infant/Toddler Teacher.”
Funding and Resources
Access to funding is available through the Maine Community College System’s Maine Quality Centers (MQC), which have helped over 224 Maine businesses expand, representing 12,670 new jobs and $2.1 billion in private investment in Maine.
Customized workforce training is coordinated and delivered through any of Maine’s seven community colleges, at no cost to the business or trainees. To participate, businesses must create a minimum of eight new full-time positions located in Maine. Small businesses may partner with one another through a consortia approach to achieve the net new job creation.
Grant funds are also available through MQC’s incumbent worker training program, which provides money to cover training programs for businesses’ existing workforce. This is an excellent opportunity for businesses to develop and enhance the skills of their current employees. Click here for more information.
The Center for Business and Industry staff will work with your business to create a training and expansion plan. This is submitted to the Maine Quality Center where it is reviewed for funding.
