Eastern Maine Community College’s Culinary Boot Camp offers a hands-on introduction to professional kitchen techniques and foundational culinary practices – all at no cost to participants. Whether you’re exploring a new career or building on existing skills, this program is your launchpad into the culinary world.


What You’ll Learn

Through a blend of in-person labs and online learning, participants gain practical experience in key culinary areas, including:

  • Knife Skills
    Learn how to safely and efficiently handle and maintain knives for a variety of culinary tasks.
  • Introduction to Workplace Practices & Equipment
    Become familiar with commercial kitchen tools, workflows, and professional standards.
  • Moist Heat Cooking Methods
    Explore techniques such as boiling, steaming, poaching, and simmering.
  • Dry Heat Cooking Methods
    Develop skills in roasting, baking, grilling, broiling, and pan-broiling.
  • Combination Cooking Techniques
    Learn braising, stewing, and other blended methods used in professional kitchens.
  • Saucier Techniques
    Practice sautéing, stir-frying, and searing – essential skills for any line cook or chef.
