AP – Advanced Placement Coursework
Students who completed Advanced Placement courses in high school and passed the College Board AP exam(s) with the specified score(s) as outlined on the EMCC PLA Matrix will receive credit for the equivalent EMCC course(s). The AP score(s) should be requested by the student as part of the admissions process and sent directly to the EMCC Admissions Office for review and transcription. Click Here for more information.
CLEP – College Level Examination Program
The College Board offers 33 exams in five subject areas covering material taught in courses typically required in the first two years of college. Students who earn the specified score(s) as outlined on the EMCC PLA Matrix will receive credit for the equivalent EMCC course(s). The CLEP score(s) should be requested by the student as part of the admissions process or at the time the exam is taken and sent directly to the EMCC Admissions Office for review and transcription. DSST – DANTES Subject Standardized Test
The DSST program offers 38 examinations in a wide range of college-level academic, technical and business subjects. These exams originated with the Department of Defense but are open to all learns. Students who earn the specified score(s) as outlined on the EMCC PLA Matrix will receive credit for the equivalent EMCC course(s). IB – International Baccalaureate
The International Baccalaureate program includes a set of courses and exams offered at the high school level – much the same as AP credits. Students who earn the specified score(s) as outlined on the EMCC PLA Matrix will receive credit for the equivalent EMCC course(s). Foreign Language Achievement Testing
Foreign language achievement testing can assist students in receiving credit for a broad array of languages. CLEP, Brigham Young University (BYU) and New York University (NYU) offer testing options for this purpose. CLEP offers foreign language exams in three languages: French, German, and Spanish. Credit awards are based on minimum scores. Both BYU and NYU offer exams in over 60 languages. Credits for BYU language tests are awarded based on scores from 8 through 12. No credit is awarded for scores below 8. Credit for NYU language tests will be given as follows: 3 credits for the 12 point exam and 6 credits for a 14 point exam. The results of the language exams are valid for a period of five years from the date of the exam.
EMCC Challenge Exams
When no other national exam exists, EMCC may offer challenge exams to students with specific knowledge for courses which have been approved by the Dean of Academic Affairs and the Department Chair for the department that specifically offers the course(s). Students seeking permission to take exams must use the Prior Learning Assessment Request form; the Challenge Exam fee is $100 per course.
